The BIOSYSMO Project, in collaboration with the MIBIREM team, is proud to be featured in a new article published by Horizon – the EU Research & Innovation Magazine. The article, titled “Microbes on a mission to clean up Europe’s toxic soils,” explores the innovative approaches that EU-funded researchers are taking to address industrial soil pollution across the continent.
The piece highlights how scientists are harnessing the natural capabilities of microorganisms to break down pollutants and restore contaminated soils, providing an effective, sustainable alternative to conventional remediation methods. By combining microbiology, biotechnology, and advanced environmental research, projects like BIOSYSMO and MIBIREM are demonstrating the potential of nature-based solutions to tackle one of Europe’s most pressing environmental challenges.
Through this collaboration, the article showcases the impact of EU-funded research on both scientific knowledge and practical applications, emphasising the role of innovation in building a cleaner and healthier environment. It also illustrates how partnerships between research institutions and interdisciplinary teams can accelerate the development and deployment of sustainable bioremediation strategies.
